Help Yours Truly Join the Oklahoma Bar Association

Anyone who understands how horrible the Republicans are must be especially disgusted with everything the incompetent, unconscionable Donafraud J. Trump is doing as so called President. We all need to do our part to oppose what passes for his policy agenda. Call your Senators and your House member and tell them you oppose any and all legislation he proposes, especially his idiotic, ill considered budget, his executive orders, especially his idiotic, ill considered Muslim ban, and want them to investigate all of his conflicts of interest, which almost certainly involve impeachable, criminal offenses. Tell them that you want them to pursue impeachment the moment they have sufficient evidence to justify it.

I have an unusual way that I can help oppose the Donald that I am not currently availing myself of. I hold a law degree from the University of Wisconsin and practiced law there for a few years, mostly criminal defense and family law. I took a lot of public defender cases, often helping people who needed to plead guilty with their plea bargains, but also getting charges dismissed as appropriate. The police are human. They make mistakes. Most people don’t know what their rights are, which is why they need a lawyer, who’s job is to argue for their rights to the prosecutors and in court.

I allowed my license to practice in Wisconsin to lapse, then moved back to my home state of Oklahoma, which is the most “conservative” state in the country by some measures. There is plenty of work to do here in Oklahoma to oppose Trump and his Republican colleagues. Oklahoma is one of the states whose legislatures are considering bills that would have the effect of threatening protesters with criminal sanctions. It has a substantial Hispanic population, at least some of whom must be undocumented. Whatever one thinks about undocumented immigrants, anyone whom ICE proposes to deport should get a hearing to establish her/his deportability. The police make mistakes, as we have seen. No matter what one thinks of undocumented immigrants, surely citizens and green card holders should not be subject to deportation. Our rights are universal. They belong to everyone, regardless of citizenship status. Due process of law is one of the most important. The prosecutor always bears the burden of proof.

I would now like to join the state bar of Oklahoma, which is to say, become licensed to practice here. That would cost, when all is said and done, about $5,000. I have set up a crowdfunding campaign to achieve that purpose. I have a small, reliable income that is sufficient to keep me in food, clothing, and shelter, but which leaves nothing extra for this project.

  1. With havin so much content and articles do you
ever run into any issues of plagorism or copyright violation? My site has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either authored myself or outsourced but it appears
a lot of it is popping it up all over the web
without my permission. Do you know any methods to help prevent content from
being stolen? I’d truly appreciate it.
